Brick project/2011 One day I noticed abandoned architectural bricks outside of my studio. Then, I realized that a brick is “a single ceramic object” when it is not in the system of architecture. But also I realized that each brick is a structure of a rectangle and three circular holes. In this series of work, “brick project,” I am attempting to investigate the system of rectangle and three holes in an absurd way to animate the clay rectangles; transforming the inflexible system in the random way. Architectural bricks seem rigid and plain. However, clay is soft and pliable when it is wet. Glazes drip when thickly applied during firing. Exhibiting the material quality of clay and glazes on the monotonous hard brick to create the dramatic transformation is also the center of my interest in these works.
